Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

DuraFlex Chimney Inspection in Ventura: What to Know First

We inspect DuraFlex chimney liner systems in Ventura homes, typically completing a full camera inspection and written report within 24 to 48 hours of your call. A standard DuraFlex inspection runs $189 – $349 depending on whether it’s a Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3 scope of work. You’ll get a written price before we start, and the inspection includes photos and video of exactly what we see inside the flue. This page is for Ventura homeowners who already own a DuraFlex liner or are considering one, and who want a straight answer about whether their system is safe, failing, or somewhere in between. If you’re smelling smoke or noticing draft problems, call (559) 282-2695 and tell us what you’re seeing.

How DuraFlex Products Fail – and How We Fix Them

DuraFlex makes a solid liner system, but no product survives forever, and Ventura’s salt air plus marine layer moisture creates conditions that accelerate certain failures. Here’s what we actually find on inspection jobs:

  • Corrosion at the tee connection on DuraFlex 316L liners. The stainless steel tee where the liner meets the appliance connector is the most common failure point we see in Ventura. Condensation gathers there, and if the liner was sized too large for the appliance, the flue gases cool too quickly and create acidic condensate that eats at the weld points. We see this on water heater flues most often. The fix is usually a new tee section, and 316L alloy holds up far better than the standard 304 in coastal air.
  • Warped or separated seams on DuraFlex Pro liners. The Pro series is corrugated for flexibility, and those corrugation peaks can fracture over years of heating and cooling cycles. We find separated seams on upper sections where the liner passes through the clay tile transition. On camera, it looks like small gaps or tears. If the damage is isolated to one section, we can sometimes replace just that length rather than the entire liner.
  • Punctures from failed mortar or spalling brick. Older Ventura chimneys, especially in the historic Eastside neighborhoods near San Buenaventura Mission, shed bits of deteriorated masonry that fall onto the liner. DuraFlex 304 is thinner than 316L and more prone to puncture from this debris. We’ll find the puncture on camera, then assess whether the surrounding liner steel is still sound before recommending a patch versus a section replacement.
  • Improper termination at the chimney cap. We regularly see DuraFlex liners that were installed with the wrong top plate or an undersized rain cap. This lets rain and marine moisture in, which then runs down the outside of the liner and corrodes it from the exterior. The symptom is usually rust staining on the crown or water in the firebox. Replacing the termination kit with a properly sized DuraFlex cap stops the intrusion.
  • Creosote bridging in corrugated DuraFlex Pro liners. The corrugations that make Pro liners easy to install also give creosote, the tar-like byproduct of wood burning, something to grab onto. In Ventura, where many homes burn oak and eucalyptus, we see bridging develop faster than on smooth-wall liners. The creosote itself isn’t a liner failure, but it hides what’s underneath, and brushing a corrugated liner too aggressively can damage the walls. We use an inspection camera first, then choose a brush size that cleans without scoring the steel.

Our DuraFlex Chimney Inspection Process

Here’s what happens when you call us for a DuraFlex inspection in Ventura:

  1. 1
Schedule and identity preview. You’ll get the technician’s name and photo sent to you before the visit, and they’ll show a photo ID at the door. No exceptions, ever.
  2. 2
Visual assessment of the top and bottom. We check the cap, crown, flashing, and termination kit, then move inside to the firebox or appliance connector and look for rust, staining, or gaps.
  3. 3
Camera inspection through the full liner run. We run a camera from top to bottom, recording the entire interior. This shows us seam integrity, corrosion, creosote depth, and any hidden damage a visual look can’t catch.
  4. 4
Written findings and photo report. You get a written report with still images and video access, plus a plain-English explanation of what we saw and what it means. Nothing goes on the report without camera evidence.
  5. 5
Parts decision and written price. If repairs are needed, we explain whether OEM DuraFlex parts or a quality aftermarket equivalent is the right call, and we hand you a written price before any work begins.
  6. 6
Repair, retest, and guarantee. We complete the repair, run the camera again to verify, and hand you a written guarantee covering the work. If it fails within the coverage period, the second visit is free.

What DuraFlex Chimney Inspection Costs in Ventura

Here’s what you can expect to pay for DuraFlex work in Ventura, based on what we typically see:

  • Level 1 inspection (visual, accessible areas): $189 – $249
  • Level 2 inspection (adds camera scan, used for real estate or after an event): $299 – $349
  • Tee section replacement (parts and labor): $425 – $650
  • Termination cap or top plate replacement: $225 – $400
  • Full DuraFlex liner replacement: $2,400 – $4,200 depending on liner length, diameter, and access

What moves the price is access: a steep roof, a tall two-story flue, or a liner installed through a tight chase all add labor. Coastal corrosion and older masonry that requires stabilization before a liner replacement also change the number. Call (559) 282-2695 for a free estimate. You’ll get a written price before anything starts, and the number we quote is the number you pay.
