Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
DuraFlex Flue Liner Replacement: The Ventura Owner’s Guide
A DuraFlex flue liner replacement in Ventura typically runs $1,600 to $3,400 installed, depending on flue height, roof access, and whether the old liner needs to be pulled or can be removed cleanly. We stock DuraFlex-compatible sizing on the truck for most single-story and two-story Ventura homes, so we can often complete the swap in a single visit once we’ve measured. Most homeowners discover they need this because a chimney inspection flags a cracked or separated liner section, or because a sweep pulls out rust flakes and thin metal when the brush comes back down.

To be direct: a flue liner is not a part you patch. DuraFlex is a corrugated stainless steel liner system and when a section fails, the fix is replacement of the damaged run, not a wrap or a sealant. That’s the honest answer, and it’s the answer we give homeowners from the Eastside to Pierpont every week.
Which DuraFlex Models This Applies To
DuraFlex makes three main liner lines you’ll see in Ventura County homes: DuraFlex 316, DuraFlex AL (aluminum, for gas only), and the Pro series in 316Ti for higher-temperature wood stoves. The 316 and 316Ti both carry a limited lifetime warranty from the manufacturer; the AL typically covers 15 to 20 years in our coastal air. The key compatibility gotcha: DuraFlex 316 and the Pro 316Ti look nearly identical on the shelf, but you cannot mix them in the same flue run. The Pro liner has a tighter corrugation and a slightly thicker wall. If a previous installer spliced in a section of the wrong series, that joint is almost always where the failure starts.
On the liner itself you’ll usually find an etched label near the top section with the model and diameter. If the label is burned off or illegible, we measure the inside diameter and the corrugation pitch to identify it. For Ventura’s older fireplaces, 6-inch and 8-inch diameters cover the vast majority. We install genuine DuraFlex components rather than generic aftermarket liner for two reasons: the wall thickness is consistent, and the locking seams align exactly with any surviving sections of the existing run. Alcott Chimney Ventura is an independent service provider, not a DuraFlex dealer or affiliate, but we specify their materials because they hold up to the salt air and temperature swings we get here.

Signs Your DuraFlex Flue Liner Replacement Is Failing
- Rust flakes or metal bits in the firebox after a burn. This means the liner wall is shedding from the inside. In Ventura’s marine layer, condensation inside the flue accelerates this, especially on liners that don’t get hot enough to burn off moisture.
- You smell smoke inside the house when the fireplace is lit, even with the damper open. A separated seam or pinhole lets smoke escape into the chase instead of drawing up and out. This is a carbon monoxide path, not just a nuisance.
- The liner sags or shifts when viewed from the top. DuraFlex sections lock together, but if the top plate wasn’t secured properly or the tee at the bottom is corroded, the whole run can drop.
- White or gray staining on the chimney exterior near the top. Flue gases escaping through a breach leave mineral deposits on the masonry or chase. By the time you see it outside, the hole inside is already established.
- Your chimney sweep flags uneven creosote buildup. If one side of the liner builds creosote faster than the other, that’s usually a rough or separated section catching debris. A camera inspection shows exactly where.
None of these get better with use. If you’re seeing even one, we’d rather put eyes on it now than after a chimney fire tells you something was wrong.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
A full DuraFlex liner replacement in Ventura lands between $1,600 and $3,400 for most homes. The spread depends on three things: the flue height (a two-story El Rio house costs more than a single-story Midtown bungalow), roof pitch and access, and whether we’re pulling the old liner or if it comes out cleanly with the pulling cone already attached. Parts are typically $400 to $900 of that total; the rest is labor, the top plate and rain cap if yours are rusted, and the camera inspection we do before and after.
Every quote is written before work starts, so the number you see is the number you pay. The work carries our written 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the new liner fails in the first year, the second visit is free, no questions about who did what. We also photograph the install with the camera so you can see the finished run from top to bottom without getting on a ladder.

DIY or Call Us?
I’ll be straight with you, because pretending otherwise does nobody any favors: replacing a flue liner is not a DIY project. It means working on the roof, handling a 20- to 35-foot stainless steel assembly, and making connections that have to be right the first time because you can’t see them once the liner is dropped. A poorly seated DuraFlex joint fails exactly the way the old one did, except now you’ve paid for the parts and still need the fix.
What you can safely do yourself is the diagnosis. If you’re comfortable with a flashlight, open the damper and look up. Rust flakes, a visible gap, or water staining at the base are useful things to tell us when you call (559) 282-2695. Tell me what you’re seeing and I’ll tell you what it actually means. We’ll bring the camera, show you the proof on site, and give you a written price before anything gets touched.
FAQs
A properly installed DuraFlex 316 liner typically lasts 15 to 25 years in Ventura County. Coastal moisture and salt air are harder on liners than dry inland heat, so homes within a mile or two of the ocean tend to see failures sooner than houses up in East Ventura.
If yours was installed more than 20 years ago, a camera inspection is worth doing now even if the fireplace still draws fine. Give us a call at (559) 282-2695 and we’ll schedule a look.
No, not safely. Individual DuraFlex sections can sometimes be spliced if the damage is confined to one segment and the remaining liner is still sound, but once the metal is pitted, rusted through, or separated at a joint, a section replacement is the repair. A liner is a continuous exhaust path, and any weak point is a future chimney fire location. Call (559) 282-2695 and we’ll tell you honestly which situation you have after seeing it on camera.
Most single-story Ventura homes take 3 to 5 hours from setup to cleanup. Two-story properties or difficult roof access can push it to most of a day. We schedule one job per crew per day so we’re not rushing your install to get to the next stop.
We stock DuraFlex 316 and AL sections in 6-inch and 8-inch diameters on the truck, along with top plates, rain caps, tee sections, and pulling cones. If your home needs an odd size or a Pro 316Ti run, we order it and typically install within 5 to 7 business days in Ventura. We also work with HeatShield and Gelco materials when a resurfacing approach fits the chimney better than a full liner swap.
